Dear Pablo. If you were music, what would you sound like?
It would be a long track. Something like an opera. It d be start with something classical, then something latin, to rock, pop, then jazz, house and techno. There would be loads of sex on stage also. And the crowd would drink good british ale while watching with 3d glasses on and very loud speakers…
Your music has it’s own direction – tendency electro but there’s often a breeze of minimal techno in it – a rare combination. How do you manage combining these two styles in such a harmonic way?
I dont even know. Sometimes I just let myself go in the studio… I’m trying to separate my genres more these days, so Pablo Decoder will be more electronish but with tech-houses hints. Also do THE DEATH KIT (dirty electro pop), THE MINIMAL KIDZ (house, tech and prog) and finally my band DECODER which is full on rock indie with heavy synths.
You run a label, are djing and producing, you have diverse band projects and a few releases going on. Seems like music is your breathe. What do you do in a music-free minute?
I don’t have free time, and when I do I try to do a bit of networking and chat on the phone to my mum or friends. I should be going out more actually…
On december 15th we not only have the pleasure to see you behind the turntables of the Dienstagswelt, you are also moving your recording studio from London to Berlin the same day! Why Berlin?
I find Berlin very inspiring, I got a bit fed up with the UK, even though I love London I can’t seem to be doing my best there and that’s something that upsets me. The environment where I work from is something very important to me. I want to spend a long time in Berlin writing and getting inspired by its amazing scene and people. I have to finish 3 albums. So hopefully it will be the right move…
And what can Berlin expect from you in the next year?
I’ll be writing loads of good stuff. Collaborating with awesome artists like THE SEXINVADERS and also throw some parties… Find me in Kreuzberg where my studio is. I’ll be out a lot with my fellow MINIMAL KIDZ partner Nick Global Warning…
