Wie die Zeit schon wieder verflogen ist! Es liegt nun schon fast ein halbes Jahr zurück, dass uns DER Londoner Indie-/Electro-DJ in Berlin besucht hat. Doch dieses Mal müssen wir uns dicke Stiefel und Mäntel anziehen und mit der U1 oder U6 ins tiefe Kreuzberg fahren, denn am Samstag, den 28. Januar 2012, wird der feine Herr Alkan dem Gretchen ordentlich einheizen.
Erol Alkans Dj-Set hatte schon in unserem alten Wohnzimmers Icon jeden Raver zum dehydrieren gebracht und die Tanzausdauer durch Tracks wie “Lemonade” (siehe unten) auf die Probe gestellt.

Nun wird er es ein weiteres Mal wagen, die Hallen seines Labels Phantasy Sound verlassen, die Nordsee überqueren und schließlich durch den Eingangspavillion des Gretchens wandern. An seiner Seite hat er seinen Landsmann und ehemaligen Trash-Resident Rory Phillips, der für ausgefallene Remixe unter anderem für The XX, Digitalism und Gossip steht.

Just imagine: All the way down the “Pacific Coast Highway” in your Ferrari Testarossa, wearing a pink shirt and Ray Ban’s “Wayfarer” and listening to Pia Zadora’s “When the rain begins to fall” on the radio…then you know how Sonny Crockett must have felt cruising through Miami in the 80′s.
Now back into the future! There is one man that is reviving the 80′s-manner with funky discohousebass plus retro visuals and will head to Gretchen Berlin on saturday the 21st of January via time leap. Kavinsky, the french teddy boy amongst the djs, will unpack his disks and lay down a dj-set that even video game freaks will be delighted. Especially when he is dropping his track “Testarossa Autodrive” remixed by SebastiAn, known from GTA IV.

Both acts have already been touring together alongside with Daft Punk in 2007. This time Kavinsky gets support by our Pink-Pong’s finest Marvin Suggs and The Sexinvaders, who made a floating remix of Kavinsky‘s track “Nightcall”. We are glad to announce that we are going to celebrate our first little jubilee these days! On the 13th of January in 2012 we dropped our fifth release on Pink-Pong-Records. Am Samstag ist es nun so weit…der Tag, den so keiner recht kommen lassen wollte und wir bereits mit einem tränenden Auge entgegen gesehen haben, steht vor der Tür. Das Icon, unser geliebtes Wohnzimmer, lädt zum allerletzten Male in seine heimischen Hallen ein und nimmt mit uns nicht nur Abschied vom Jahre 2011, sondern es wird auch Lebewohl gesagt von 15 grandiosen Jahren mit unserer großen Liebe. Leidenschaft für gute elektronische Musik, unvergessliche Stunden und süße Erinnerungen mit Freunden und der Feiermeute wurden hier geprägt. Ein Ort, an dem man sich immer Zuhause gefühlt hat und man nie gehen wollte, wenn die Lichter bereits wieder angegangen sind. Scheiden tut weh, aber wie sagt man so schön: Nur wahre Liebe hält ewig! Icon, du bleibst unvergessen und in unseren Herzen!
Einige Djs haben die Ehre, sich ein allerletztes Mal hinter die Plattenspieler am 31.12.11 zu stellen und uns einen denkwürdigen Abschied zu bescheren. Neben D.I.M. von Boysnoize Records sind unsere Residents The Sexinvaders und Marvin Suggs mit von der Partie. Ihre Musik ist dem vielfachen Icon-Gänger mehr als bekannt, deswegen schmieren wir uns heute ein wenig Schmalz auf die Stulle und werden ein bisschen sentimental mit herzzerreißenden Tönen:

Und wer denkt jetzt wäre das Jahr vorbei – nix da: Silvester steht noch ein ganz besonderer Gig an: Zum ca. dreißigsten und leider auch letzten Mal haben wir die Ehre im legendären Icon Club zu spielen. Der Club hat uns geprägt und wir verdanken ihm sehr viel! Wir freuen uns ein letztes Mal den Club abzureißen. Und wenn wir das dieses Mal im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes machen, ist es nicht schlimm. Denn danach kommt kein DJ zum auflegen, sondern die Handwerker zum abbauen.

Milestone birthdays shall be celebrated! And this is truly a landmark in Berlin’s club history. Our beloved home Icon Berlin is throwing a big party in occasion of its 15. birthday and, sadly as it is, it will be the last birthday-bash at Cantianstraße 15. Three weeks before the official closing of our favourite parlor the Icon Berlin has invited some very special guests.
A young man who tells about his everyday life on the streets for about ten years now and is still coming up with thrilling new stories is doing us the honor of turning in an awesome dj-set on friday night. There is talk of nobody else but Mike Skinner, also known as The Streets. Playful dance music and a strong british accent smoothed his way. But this year he has put his success with his band down and now he addicts himself to new projects. So this is one of the rare chances to see the pleasent Londoner behind the turntables.

15 Jahre lang haben wir gelacht, geliebt und getanzt. Nun zerbricht die große Hoffnung vom weiteren Bestehen unseres geliebten Wohnzimmers Icon Berlin. Wir werden nie die gemeinsamen Stunden mit unseren Freunden und der unglaublichen Icon-Crew vergessen, die wir in langen Nächten und zu grandioser elektronischer Musik verbracht haben. Diese Erinnerungen bleiben auf ewig!
Doch nun müssen wir Abschied nehmen, so schwer es auch fällt und so doll das Herz auch bluten mag. Am 31.12.11 öffnet unser Heimchen ein allerletztes Mal seine Pforten zusammen mit D.I.M., The Sexinvaders, Marvin Suggs und allen anderen, die diesen Club geprägt haben. Bis dahin verbleibt ein ganzer Monat, um gebührend Lebewohl und dankeschön zu sagen für eine wunderbare Zeit!
